Ranked by whether they are worth your time, not by how well they photograph. Six of our top ten cost nothing at all.
The six things nobody should skip: Intramuros (₱75 for Fort Santiago, half a day), the three National Museums (free), a Binondo food crawl (₱400–500), the Manila American Cemetery (free), the Pasig River Esplanade at golden hour (free), and the Okada fountain show (free, nightly). That is a day and a half of genuinely good sightseeing for under ₱1,000 a head. Everything below is ranked against those. The one thing we would actively tell you to walk past is the Dessert Museum.
The ten things worth your time in Manila
Intramuros — the walled city
The one Manila sight nobody argues about, and it is having its best decade since the 1990s. Fort Santiago now opens until 10pm, the walls are free to walk, and the Esplanade links it to Chinatown on foot. Arrive at 15:30 and finish at golden hour on the ramparts.
The three National Museums — free
Fine Arts holds the Spoliarium, Juan Luna's four-by-seven-metre 1884 Salon winner, and it is worth the flight on its own. Anthropology holds the pre-colonial gold. Natural History has the Tree of Life atrium. No tickets, no booking, closed Mondays.
A Binondo food crawl
The oldest Chinatown on earth, established 1594, and the best-value three hours in the metro. Dumplings, fried chicken, fresh lumpia, hand-pulled noodles and hopia across four or five stops. Guided crawls at $47–60 rate higher than any other tour type in the city.
Manila American Cemetery — free
17,184 graves and 36,286 names of the missing, on a rise ten minutes from BGC's malls, kept to a standard nothing else in the country matches. The most affecting hour in Metro Manila, and almost nobody staying in BGC bothers to go.
Fort Santiago at golden hour
Rizal's last cell, the flooded wartime dungeons, and ramparts over the mouth of the Pasig. The 2024–26 change no guidebook has caught: it now runs until 10pm, so the sensible visit is late afternoon into the lit evening.
The Pasig River Esplanade
1.7km of riverfront that did not exist before 2024, running past Jones Bridge and the old Post Office to Arroceros Forest Park. With the 2022 Binondo–Intramuros Bridge it created a walking loop from the walled city to Chinatown. Go between 16:30 and 18:30.

San Agustin Church and Casa Manila
The oldest stone church in the Philippines, completed 1607, UNESCO-listed, and the only building in Intramuros that came through 1945 intact. The painted trompe-l'œil ceiling is the surprise. Casa Manila across the street is the better ₱75 of the two.
The Okada fountain show — free
Designed by WET, the company behind the Bellagio fountains, and it runs every half hour from 7pm — to 10pm on weeknights and midnight at weekends. It costs nothing, it is genuinely spectacular, and it is inside a casino resort, which is very 2026 Manila.
Quiapo, with your wits about you
The Black Nazarene basilica, herbalists and amulet sellers across the plaza, and a camera-repair street. The rawest hour available in Manila and the densest pickpocketing environment in this guide. Friday is devotion day and the most intense.

What should you avoid in Manila?
The Dessert Museum at ₱699–899 for an hour of worn photo rooms, Manila Bay dinner cruises at 3.1★, and any unsolicited kalesa or pedicab “city tour”. Buying attraction tickets at the gate rather than online is the other reliable way to waste money.
Is Manila worth visiting for sightseeing?
For one to two days, yes. The walled city, three free national museums and the oldest Chinatown on earth are a genuinely good stopover, and the food scene changed completely between 2023 and 2026. For a week of sightseeing, no — the sights do not stretch that far and the traffic will.
