Manila's night out is Poblacion, and it is not close. Start at a rooftop around 7pm, eat somewhere with plastic stools, drink at The Spirits Library (Asia's 50 Best Bars #98, cocktails ₱500–900), and finish at a taco window at 3am. Bars have no cover; clubs take ₱300–1,000 consumable on Friday and Saturday. BGC's Uptown clubs are the polished alternative with stricter doors and higher prices. O Bar in Ortigas is the metro's drag flagship and the best show in the city. Two things to know: Malate's famous nightlife is gone, and XYLO in BGC closed in January 2026.
How a Manila night actually runs
Manila starts late and ends later. Turning up to a Poblacion bar at 8pm on a Friday and finding it empty is normal, not a bad sign.

Venue rosters in Poblacion churn roughly 30% every two years — check Instagram the day you go. Closed and gone: XYLO in BGC (January 2026), Nectar, the LGBTQ+ superclub in BGC (early 2025), and the comedy super-clubs Klownz and Zirkoh in Quezon City (2020).
Three things about drinking in Manila
The mechanics here are different enough from most of Asia that they are worth a paragraph each.
Tagay. Traditional Filipino drinking is communal: one shared shot glass circles the group, poured by a designated tanggero, with pulutan (bar snacks) on the table. Refusing your turn reads as refusing the friendship. It explains why Manila drinking is seated and social rather than a bar crawl.
The gin thing. The Philippines is the world's largest gin market and Ginebra San Miguel is the best-selling gin on earth by volume. A ₱75–100 bottle of the square-shouldered kwatro-kantos plus powdered juice makes GinPom, the actual national cocktail. Craft beer runs ₱250–400 a pint; San Miguel Pale Pilsen and Red Horse are ₱60–120 in a shop.
KTV means two different things. Family KTV is wholesome private-room karaoke — Music 21, Red Box, mall boxes, from about ₱42 per person per hour off-peak — and it is where Filipinos genuinely spend birthdays. Hostess KTV, signposted identically along P. Burgos, M.H. del Pilar and EDSA, runs ladies'-drinks economics at ₱300–700 a drink with padded bills and documented exploitation concerns. Know which door you are walking through.
Going out with a local
Poblacion has no cover charges and needs no booking, so a crawl buys orientation rather than access — which on night one is worth a lot.

What time do bars and clubs close in Manila?
Bars peak between 7pm and midnight; clubs fill from around 12:30am and close between 2am and 4am. Thursday to Saturday are the busy nights and Sunday to Wednesday can be genuinely quiet. Tapsilog joints stay open 24 hours, which is how most nights actually end.
How much do drinks cost in Manila?
Beer ₱120–250 in a bar and ₱60–120 in a shop, cocktails ₱350–600, and ₱500–900 at the serious bars like The Spirits Library. Clubs charge ₱300–1,000 consumable cover on Friday and Saturday; almost no bars charge cover at all. A four-drink night in Poblacion runs ₱800–2,200.
Is Malate still good for nightlife?
No. The bohemian and LGBT scene that made Malate famous in the 1990s unwound over the 2010s and never came back — O Bar, the flagship, moved to Ortigas in 2013. What remains is student dives, old beer gardens and hostess KTV. Go to Poblacion instead.

Is Poblacion safe at night?
The main streets are crowded and fine until 4am. The specific risk is phone-snatching on unlit side streets after about 2am — take a Grab rather than walking, keep your phone in a pocket rather than your hand, and never follow a tout to a venue you did not choose.
